About Juan Ma Morales

Juan Manuel Morales (a.k.a. JuanMa) studied at Julliard School of Music, NYC New School of Music and received his degree from Cornell University. He also studied the National instrument of Puerto Rico, the Cuatro, with the legendary master Paquito Lopez Cruz.

After many years performing Rock & Jazz music, his involvement with the Nueva Trova movement with Roy Brown y Aires Bucaneros brought him to interact closely with his Latin Roots. JuanMa wrote the score, directed and performed the Off-Broadway musicals Coco Bale and Baquine, written by Nuyorican poet Bimbo Ribas and sponsored by the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA).

From these multiple experiences he formed Sonido Costeño as a musical vehicle to a broader audience & commercial appeal. His charismatic and down to earth approach to performing makes JuanMa y su Sonido Costeño the popular band it is today.
